Casting/Splinting
上周给大家提到了骨折的基本分类，所幸不少骨折并不需要手术只要接受石膏固定 casting 或夹板固定 splinting 就可以了！
1.Both casts and splints serve to immobilise orthopaedic injuries.
(1).Immobilise 意为"固定", 由代表否定的前缀 im- 和代表"移动/行动"的 –mobilise 组成。例如给术后康复的患者医嘱中通常包括 encourage mobilisation 就是"鼓励(尽早下床)走动"。
(2).值得一提的是, mobile phone 意为"手机"在口语中也通常简称为 mobile。
2.They maintain bone alignment, diminish pain, protect the injury and help compensating for surrounding muscular weakness.
(1).Alignment 在前几期骨科内容中提到很多次了, 是"排列"的意思。
(2).Diminish 基本等同于"减少", 不过它更贴近书面用语。例如商务英语中"减少开支"通常也会 diminishing cost 来表达。
(3).Compensating/compensate 意为"代偿", 反义词加前缀 de-。例如"失代偿性心力衰竭" decompensated heart failure。
3.当然, 不只是骨折需要石膏/夹板固定：
In addition to fracture, other conditions that may benefit from immobilization include sprains, severe soft-tissue injuries and reduced joint dislocations.
(1).Sprain 意为"扭伤"。
(2).Severe 指"严重的", 其名词为"严重程度" severity, 在疾病评估中经常用到。
(3).Reduced joint dislocations 大家都知道 reduce 在日常用语中是"减去"的意思, "复位"。
